The Lunar New Year marks the beginning of spring and is celebrated by many Asian communities across the globe as a major holiday. In addition to family time and delicious food, art and music are also important parts of each year’s celebration. As Asian communities become more aware of their cultural roots, performing arts provides one of the best avenues for them to learn about traditions and also generates excitement for ongoing cultural engagement.
Shine Tune is dedicated to connecting and empowering local communities by curating unique artistic and cultural experiences through performing arts programs. To celebrate the Lunar New Year, we have designed a concert program dedicated to showcasing the beauty of traditional Asian music with world-class conductors and musicians.
To date, we have worked with the Minnesota Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra to successfully present the Lunar New Year concert program. We would like to bring this sensory and inspiring experience to many more local communities by collaborating with cultural organizations.
Our concert program features both classics and new compositions from Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mongolia and China, themed around spring and the Lunar New Year. Some of the audience’s favorites to date include Internet Symphony Eroica by Tan Dun, Korean folk song A rirang, Sketches of Singapore by Kelly Tang, and Spring Festival Overture by Li Huanzhi.
